Imaging Nanostructures by X-ray Holography: From Storage Rings to Free Electron Lasers

X-ray Holography allows high resolution imaging of nanostructures using coherent x-rays. A brief review of the technique and an overview of recent results on magnetic nanostructures will be presented. As the approach is based on coherent scattering and interference, it will benefit from the availability of diffraction limited x-ray pulses and the high coherent photon flux available at future FEL sources. The possibilities and limitations with respect spatial and temporal resolution will be discussed in connection to the science that will be enabled.
