Welcome to the SRC Website!

The Synchrotron Radiation Center (SRC) is a national research laboratory operated by the Graduate School of the University of Wisconsin - Madison with funding from the National Science Beamline EquipmentFoundation Division of Materials Research. It is one of the most innovative and user-friendly research facilities in the world today. SRC uses an electron storage ring (nicknamed Aladdin) to produce the light that is used to conduct a diverse range of experiments (see The Facility for general information on Synchrotron Light and a detailed history of SRC).

The laboratory attracts scientists from around the world who tackle fundamental and applied problems, including experiments on superconductors, low-dimensional solids, quantum confinement, geology, and environmental science; microanalysis of cells, tissues, and minerals; and cutting-edge explorations of nanotechnology and nanocircuit fabrication. The results are published regularly in leading scientific journals such as Science and Nature. Visitors to the site can read about selected projects from 2005 in the Research Highlights section of the site. Users visiting the site and those planning to conduct research at SRC are encouraged to find all relevant forms, schedules, support information and more in the User Support section of the website.

In addition to these programs, we are also very active in Education and Public Outreach, and weJoe Bisognano, SRC Director are particularly committed to supporting women and minorities in their pursuit of science careers as well as forging relationships with high school and college instructors. In sum, SRC is a leader in the world of synchrotron research and education. This Website was created and is updated frequently to serve our users, educators, students, the public and any others interested in synchrotron science.

See the SRC visually by accessing our slide show.

Thank you for visiting!
